Former England footballer Raheem Sterling has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following a Lamborghini crash on a motorway in Hampshire.
Sterling, 31, appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday over the single-vehicle collision on the M3 near the Minley Interchange on May 28.
The crash involved Sterling’s Lamborghini and no other vehicle. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said no injuries were reported.
Sterling was also charged with possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen.
The charges followed an investigation into the motorway crash. Police had initially considered whether Sterling had been driving while unfit through drugs, but that allegation was not included among the charges eventually brought against him.
Sterling, who was born in Kingston, Jamaica, moved to the United Kingdom as a child and established himself as one of England’s leading forwards during a career that included spells at Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
He won four Premier League titles with Manchester City, along with five League Cups and an FA Cup. He later joined Chelsea in 2022 before spending the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal.
Sterling subsequently joined Dutch club Feyenoord on a short-term deal but is currently without a club.
He won 82 England caps between 2012 and 2022, scoring 20 goals and representing the national team at three World Cups and two European Championships. He was also awarded an MBE in 2021 for services to racial equality in sport.
