Arsenal’s comeback against Chelsea, Manchester United’s draw at Everton and a series of impressive individual performances dominated the latest Premier League weekend as the early-season table began to take shape.
Arsenal recovered from going behind to beat Chelsea 2-1, with Christos Tzolis producing an influential performance and creating an assist in the comeback.
Manchester United, meanwhile, drew 2-2 with Everton in a match that highlighted both teams’ attacking potential and defensive problems. Everton also welcomed Jack Grealish back into the side on loan, giving the club another creative option.
Young players increasingly shape the competition
Several emerging players also used the weekend to strengthen their reputations.
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott impressed during a 2-2 draw with Newcastle and has increased pressure on England manager Thomas Tuchel to consider him for international selection.
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo also stood out with two assists, while Manchester City’s new signing Iliman Ndiaye made his debut after joining the club with Champions League ambitions.
Brighton offered another example of a young player attracting attention, with Malick Yalcouyé emerging as one of the weekend’s promising performers.
At the other end of the table, Fulham suffered a third consecutive defeat under manager Álvaro Arbeloa, with defensive weaknesses continuing to undermine their campaign.
The weekend therefore offered an early indication of how quickly the Premier League’s storylines can change. Established clubs are still fighting for position, but younger players are already influencing matches and challenging for bigger roles.
